Letter from the CEO

John EastA few years from now, we will look back at 2008 as an inflection point in our history. As we enter 2009, we should be fully aware that from here on in, life as we know it will be drastically different. The new government has already laid out solid plans to rebuild the US economy, in bold and radical ways and for sure, this will have global impact. One of those radical ways is to finally put real wood behind the environmental arrow. It's been acknowledged, finally, that one of the best ways to build a sustainable economy, and a likewise future, is to build an energy-efficient new world.

It'll be a slow and cautious start—building industries behind alternative energy sources; innovating automobile batteries and the supporting infrastructure; retrofitting data centers, hospitals, and schools with more efficient technologies; turning "the grid" into reality; and a host of other innovations yet to emerge...but these will be exciting times. We will all be participants and witnesses to the building of a new future, one that will belong to our children and the generations to come.

At Actel, we intend to fully invest our resources into developing this new world. We started shifting our focus years ago to power-efficient FPGAs and our company, our people, and our products are all committed to continuous innovation in this energy-conscious space. Today, we're highlighting that commitment even more with the greening of our company identity, our logo. Why? Because now, more than ever, POWER MATTERS.

We enter 2009 with great hopes for the future, but it also comes with extreme sadness at the loss of our CFO, Jon Anderson. We will miss Jon roaming the halls of our Mountain View headquarters, but he leaves a legacy of dedication and integrity that will remain with us forever.

To our customers, partners, employees, and shareholders, I thank you for your continued support over the last 23 years.

Regards,

John East
